At Skaks in Rødekro, moving the seemingly impossible is just another day at work: a church tower weighing 24 tons, a transformer weighing 400 tons, or even an entire summerhouse that needs saving from a storm surge. Heavy transport is the company’s core competence – and what makes them one of Europe’s strongest players in the industry.

“We’ve always been good at seeing solutions others can’t spot. That’s what drives us – and we don’t go home until the job is done,” says Lars Skak Jensen, CEO of the transport company Skaks in Rødekro, specialists in heavy transport and crane work.

At Skaks, no job is too small – but most of them are getting bigger and heavier year by year.

“In the past, a 200-ton mobile crane was considered huge. Today, they need to lift between 650 and 1,300 tons,” explains Lars Skak Jensen.

That is why the company today operates one of Europe’s most modern and specialized fleets within crane operations, heavy transport, machinery relocation, and rigging. This capacity makes Skaks a trusted partner for everything from Denmark’s largest construction and contracting groups to the wind turbine industry and industrial companies across the Nordics, the Netherlands, and Northern Germany.

When planning carries the weight

But even the most impressive machines are only half the work. At Skaks, a full-time employee handles planning, calculations, and coordination with authorities to make sure nothing is left to chance. For example, when a wind turbine component measuring 11 meters in both width and depth has to be moved from A to B, every detail must be planned: the route must be mapped, signs and lamp posts may need to be moved, escort vehicles have to coordinate traffic, drone surveys must be carried out, and official permits secured.

From family business to European player

The story of SKAKS began in 1973, when Magnus Skak Jensen founded the company on Rømø. Back then, it was a small crane business, but the ambitions quickly grew. First, the company moved to Tønder – and later to Rødekro, where the location close to the motorway reduced wasted driving time and improved efficiency for customers.

In 2012, his son, Lars Skak Jensen, took over the management. Having started as a mechanic and crane operator in his youth, Lars today brings more than three decades of experience to the business.

Five years ago, SKAKS became part of BMS Group, but Lars remains in the director’s chair, running the company with the same values as during its family-owned years. Today, SKAKS has grown from a local business into an international player with more than 60 employees. The head office is still located in Rødekro, now complemented by a branch in Køge near Copenhagen.
