The town council in Aabenraa Municipality has adopted a new ownership strategy for Aabenraa Harbour. The new strategy leads the way for the development and future of the industrial harbour.

The Ownership Strategy Is Important
Chairman of Aabenraa Harbour Erwin Andresen is pleased with the new ownership strategy and looks forward to implementing it.

‘The ownership strategy has been a long time coming, and it has given us a strategy that we can work with here at Aabenraa Harbour. When we act as a company here in Aabenraa, in respect for the town, and when we interact with our neighbours, it is important for us to be familiar with the owner’s plans for the town and the role of the harbour. This is clearly described in the ownership strategy, and the main aspect of the strategy is the fact that the town council clearly demonstrates that it wants to have an active industrial harbour in Aabenraa’, says Erwin Andresen and continues:

‘Getting a clear signal from the town council is important with regard to the companies based here. If the harbour is to evolve, these companies must be able to rely on us to continue to be an industrial harbour, and together with the companies we will strive to attract more goods to the harbour and utilise the amazing opportunities available to us here in Aabenraa with high depth of water and the connection to the Baltic Sea’.

Aabenraa Harbour Must Continue to Develop
‘Of course, Aabenraa Harbour has seen great development in the past five-six years. We have renovated a lot of the quays. We have found a solution in the South Harbour. And we have demonstrated, via the new construction in South Harbour 4, that we are in dialogue with investors who can help us soften the transition between harbour and town’, says Erwin Andresen.

The new ownership strategy will make sure that Aabenraa Harbour continues to evolve. The plan is to ensure that Aabenraa Harbour continues to be the leading bulk harbour in Southern Denmark. This requires finding solutions that will enable the harbour to receive more bulk. This is where the area by Enstedværket enters the picture. Similarly, the active industrial harbour needs to attract more jobs, both at the harbour and in relation to the work conducted at the harbour.

The ownership strategy has three focus points: the area north of Kilen, the area by the former Enstedværket and the remaining industrial harbour. The area north of Kilen could form part of the ongoing urban development, and the remaining industrial harbour must continue to develop as a competitive harbour.

Aabenraa Harbour Is a Part of GateDenmark
‘At the harbour we are very pleased to be a part of GateDenmark. Aabenraa Municipality constitutes a logistics and transport hub in Southern Denmark, and the connection between road transport and the harbour cannot be exaggerated. Of course, they are connected. And the interconnection between road transport, the harbour and goods transport is becoming more and more important’, Erwin Andresen concludes.
