Together with the Swedish company Ericsson, TDC is currently improving the mobile infrastructure in Aabenraa. The aim is to create the best possible nationwide mobile network, and they are therefore expanding and preparing the mobile network in Aabenraa for 5G.
5G will spark interesting future applications such as robots and drones operated by remote control, remote operations and driverless cars, just as it will open up new possibilities for small-scale entrepreneurs and larger established companies to expand their position as digital frontrunners.
‘In Aabenraa the TDC mobile network will result in marked connection improvements as well as new opportunities. 5G will create a basis for digital improvements, and TDC will provide a mobile network customised for a future where more and more items and machines are connected to the Internet’, says CEO at TDC NetCo Andreas Pfisterer.
Mayor in Aabenraa Thomas Andresen says: ‘Our goal in Aabenraa is to continue the positive development in the border area. One way to do that is by creating a future-proof digital infrastructure. We have therefore chosen to actively seize the opportunities of the digital world and adopt new growth perspectives within digital solutions as well as digital companies. Thus, 5G will act as the backbone of the transport vehicles, warehouses and logistics systems of the future, and in Aabenraa Municipality we have therefore already made ourselves available and announced that we and Padborg Transport Centre are ready to make the centre a hub for testing new technologies and systems’.
Smart Industry
More and more units are constantly being connected to the Internet, thus making it possible e.g. to remote control your holiday home heat pump or locate your car in the carpark. The same is true of the business world, where smart agriculture, smart cities and smart industries are being controlled by intelligent sensors that help streamline day-to-day operations.
‘Take the production industry, for example. Here 5G can contribute with highly intelligent, interconnected robots that communicate with one another. In addition, leading international experts believe that the transport and logistics industry in Aabenraa will see significant potential earnings following the introduction of 5G’, says Andreas Pfisterer.
All of this – and a lot more – requires high network capacity. The network must help give the many companies located in Aabenraa optimum, digital opportunities. Continued digitisation and the introduction of 5G will offer the business community significant advantages, and expanding the mobile network now thus holds great value.
The introduction of 5G will happen gradually, and most mobile phones are not expected to support 5G until the end of 2020.
‘I am pleased to see the 5G infrastructure be introduced now. Now we need to focus on exploiting the opportunities provided by the new digital technologies within e.g. transport, agriculture and healthcare. I am therefore pleased to be able to introduce 5G together with TDC, making Aabenraa a digital frontrunner’, says Thomas Andresen.
