Access to deep water, efficient unloading conditions and a strategic location have made Aabenraa Port South the region’s salt storage hub.
When winter weather set in last week, Aabenraa Port South was fully put into operation as a logistics hub for road salt. According to Aabenraa Port, the area is now the region’s central salt storage facility – selected due to its central location, deep-water port and efficient unloading facilities.
The first deliveries arrived in the autumn, when approximately 25,000 tonnes of road salt were unloaded directly from ship to storage via the existing conveyor belt at the former Ensted area of Aabenraa Port. From here, the salt can quickly be distributed as the need arises.
At SDK Shipping A/S in Aabenraa, which is responsible for the unloading, logistics is highlighted as a key factor. “The location and logistics at Aabenraa Port have once again proven to be a perfect match. Being able to unload directly from ship to storage via the existing conveyor belt saves both time and resources and ensures a fast turnaround of the vessel,” says Steffen Esbensen, Regional Director at SDK Shipping A/S, to Aabenraa Port.
